Mohanlal recently resigned as President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) following the sexual assault allegations against several members. The superstar, who remained silent on the ongoing Metoo movement in Mollywood, is finally going to address the situation today, August 31.

Mohanlal is to meet the media at noon

The Mollywood superstar is all set to meet the media on Saturday in Thiruvananthapuram. According to the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), Mohanlal will address the media at 12 PM following the launch of the Kerala Cricket League at Hyatt Regency in the city. This will be his first media interaction since his resignation and release of the Hema Committee report.

AMMA Executive Committee dissolved

Following Mohanlal's resignation as AMMA president, other members of the committee also stepped down the same day, leading to the dissolution of the body. The resignation came after some members of the body were accused of sexual abuse. As per reports, actor Jagadish was supposed to take the post of general secretary post after actor Siddique stepped aside after facing allegations of sexual abuse.

In their official statement, the film body assured that a new governance cell would be set up in two months. In the statement, the AMMA also expressed gratitude to the Hema Committee for ‘pointing out their errors’. "AMMA has decided to disperse the executive committee on moral grounds in the light of allegations made by some actors against some of the committee members. A new committee will be formed after an election within two months,” an excerpt from the statement read.

The detailed Hema Committee report uncovered the unequal treatment, poor working conditions and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry. Post uproar in Mollywood, other regional film industries, such as Tollywood and Kollywood are also planning to form a similar committee as the Hema Committee to probe women's exploitation.
