Malayalam actress Kaviyoor Ponnamma is reportedly in a critical condition, per Mathrubhumi. The veteran actress has been admitted to the hospital in Kochi due to age-related health issues. The 75-year-old is known for playing the role of mother since the age of 20.

Who is Kaviyoor Ponnamma?

Kaviyoor Ponnamma predominately works in the Malayalam film industry. She began her career in theatres and then stepped into the screen world. She is often called the 'Mother to all actors' as she actress as the mother of almost all actors in her career spanning decades. At the age of 20, she played the mother of Sathyan and Madhu in the 1965 movie Thommente Makkal. She gained critical acclaim for acting as the mother of the actor Mohanlal. She has starred in movies, including Sreerama Pattabhishekam, Postman, Moorkhan and Achayans. She was last seen in the 2019 movie Mamangam, starring Mammootty, Unni Mukundan, Achuthan and Siddique. Ponnamma is a four-time Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress winner.

On the personal front, the veteran actress was married to film producer Maniswami in 1969. The couple has a daughter Bindhu who is married and settled in the United States. Ponnamma's husband Maniswami died in 2011.
