Oscars 2024: Voting begins for Best International Film, 2018 director says 'won't disappoint'

Jude Anthany Joseph was in Los Angeles for 45 days for the Oscar promotions for his hit film 2018: Everyone Is Hero. Now, the director is heading back to India and hopes his film gets selected for the Oscars. Many may already be aware that Tovino Thomas starrer is India's official submission to the Best International Feature Oscar race for 2024.

Jude Anthany Jospeh's heartfelt post on his return to India after Oscar promotions

Taking to Instagram, the director shared a series of photos from inside the flight watching 2018 and penned a long note thanking god for the opportunity to direct the film. He also thanked the producer Venu Kunnappilly "for making this journey possible". Jude claimed that Venu is the "first Malayalam film producer who has come this far for the Oscars."

He started his note with these words, "Heading back home. Long 45 days , I was here in Los Angeles for the Oscar promotions for our film “2018-Everyone Is Hero”. I am really thankful to the God who gave me this great opportunity to direct this movie and travel this far with this film. I know this is just a beginning, long way to the Oscars. I thank my producer Venu Kunnappilly for making this journey possible, without his passion towards cinema and generous mind I wouldn’t have made this. He is the first Malayalam film producer who has come this far for the Oscars. I hope I will not disappoint him."

"I thank my publicist here in LA for all the screenings and advice, I thank the media and all the people who came for the screenings. I thank my friends in US , especially Sandy, Amit, Sree, Abraham, Rishi and Roshan for supporting when I was alone, away from my family , my lovely parents ,my dearest wife and sweet two little daughters ," he continued.

He concluded the note by writing these words, "Today the voting has started to decide the 15 films out of 88 films from all around the world. Whatever might be the results I can assure you all that we tried our best, to make us all proud. Fingers crossed for December 21st, the announcement date. See you soon dears. Can’t wait to reach God’s own country."

Inside Jude Anthany Joseph's Los Angeles diaries

A few days ago, Jude shared a series of photos on his Instagram handle, offering a glimpse inside his LA tour. He shared a photo from the Dolby Theatre, where the Academy Awards take place and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The director was awarded the Hollywood Walk of Fame and even posed with the star with his name engraved on it.

"I need my God and the entire universe working for me to stand here on March 10th 2024 with the Oscar for “The Best International Feature Film” for India, for us. Waiting for that day," his caption read.

More about 2018 - everyone is a Hero

The survival drama is based on the severe 2018 Kerala floods that devastated Kerala. The film stars Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Narain and Lal. Upon its release, it received positive reviews, and grossed around ₹177 crore at the box office to emerge as the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time while becoming the first Malayalam film to cross ₹200 crore business.
