Unni Mukundan’s Blockbuster Hit Marco Faces OTT Ban? CBFC Seeks Strict Measures Over Violent Content
Marco is helmed by Haneef Adeni, the fillm stars Unni Mukundan in the lead role.The film was released worldwide in theatres on December 20, 2024.

Unni Mukundan auctioneer Marco broke several records and became 2024’s top grossing Malayalam film in Hindi. After its digital debut, now it's facing hurdle after CBFC has asked for a ban on the movie on OTT platforms and TV.
CBFC seeks ban on Marco on TV and OTT?
The Regional Officer of CBFC has reportedly appealed to the committee that Marco should be blocked on OTT platforms. According to report in Manorama, Nadeem Thufali, the Regional Officer of CBFC said that, “Marco has already been certified A. But, parents should be cautious while allowing their children such films. The role is limited to certification and does not involve censorship. We have rejected the satellite rights for the movie Marco as it’snot suitable for a family audience”.

In an earlier interview with Galatta Plus, Unni Mukundan had defended his film Marco and said, “Marco doesn’t even show ten percent of the violence present in our society. We have achieved peace through wars, as survival has always been our primary instinct. I’m not justifying the portrayal of violence on screen, but the reality is that violence is an undeniable part of our society”. Marco is available on OTT platforms SonyLIV and Amazon Prime Video and premiered on February 14.

How much did Marco earn at box office?
As per reports of Sacnilk, Marco minted ₹60.72 crore in India and worldwide it collected ₹102.55 crore.For the unversed, Marco features Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu Thilakan, Anson Paul, and Kabir Duhan Singh in pivotal roles. Marco’s makers had earlier confirmed that sequel of the film is in the works.

The film is produced by Unni Mukundan and Shareef Muhammed under the banners Unni Mukundan Films and Cubes Entertainments. Marco, a pan-Indian film, released in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
