Costa Rica: Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the talented actor who rose to fame as Theodore ‘Theo’ Huxtable on the iconic NBC sitcom ‘The Cosby Show’, has died at the age of 54. According to reports, Warner died in an accidental drowning incident while on a family vacation in Costa Rica's Caribbean coast.
Reports suggested hat Warner was swimming at Playa Cocles in Limon province when a strong current pulled him deeper into the ocean. Despite being rescued by people on the beach, Warner was found without vital signs by first responders from Costa Rica's Red Cross and was taken to the morgue.
Warner shot to fame as a child actor, starring in ‘The Cosby Show’ from 1984 to 1992. His portrayal of Theo Huxtable earned him an Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series in 1986. After the show ended, Warner continued to work in the entertainment industry, starring in sitcoms like ‘Malcolm & Eddie’ and making appearances in popular TV shows such as ‘The Resident’, ‘Sneaky Pete’, and ‘9-1-1’.
In addition to his acting career, Warner was also a renowned poet and musician. He won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance as a featured performer on Robert Glasper's version of the Stevie Wonder song ‘Jesus Children of America’ in 2015. Warner also hosted a podcast called 'Not All Hood (NAH)', where he explored the diverse experiences and identities of Black Americans.

According to reports, Warner's death was caused by asphyxia due to drowning. He was reportedly caught in a strong current while swimming in the ocean. Warner's body was found on Sunday afternoon.

Warner's passing has left the entertainment industry shocked, with fans and colleagues mourning the loss of a talented actor and devoted artist. He leaves behind a wife and daughter, whom he kept out of the spotlight.

His friends and family asserted that Malcolm-Jamal Warner's legacy will live on through his body of work, which continues to inspire and entertain audiences. His contributions to television, music, and podcasting have left a lasting impact on popular culture.
NBA Hall-of-Famer Magic Johnson was among those paying tribute to Warner's memory. "We were both super fans of the hit 'Cosby Show' and continued to follow his career on shows like 'Malcolm and Eddie' and 'The Resident,'" Johnson said. He added, "Every time I ran into Malcolm, we would have deep and fun conversations about basketball, life, and business. He will truly be missed."
Tracee Ellis Ross, who starred alongside Warner in the BET sitcom ‘Read Between The Lines’, also paid tribute to his memory. "First I met you as Theo with the rest of the world then you were my first TV husband," Ross said. He added, “My heart is so so sad. What an actor and friend you were: warm, gentle, present, kind, thoughtful, deep, funny, elegant."
Warner's time on ‘The Cosby Show’ was not without controversy, with the show's legacy being tarnished by the sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby.
Warner had expressed his concerns about the impact of these allegations on the show's legacy, stating that it was a sad thing to see the Huxtables become ‘just a fairy tale’ due to the controversy.
