Olivia Rodrigo recently released her sophomore album Guts, which featured the song Vampire. After the single's release, there were rumours of the track being inspired by the singer’s brief relationship with Zack Bia. However, the DJ has denied any connection with Rodrigo’s latest release.

2 things you need to know

  • Olivia Rodrigo and Zack Bia dated for six months in 2020.
  • Previously, Zack’s other ex, Madison Beer has also written a song titled Selfish about him.

Zack Bia denies Vampire being about him

In a conversation with GQ, Zack was asked whether Vampire was actually about him. To this he replied, “I don’t think it’s really about me. I think the Internet just ran with it.” The DJ claimed their relationship was never serious enough to inspire any songs. He added, “We hung out, we’re both busy, and we ended up not furthering our relationship. There was never any drama.”

Despite Bia's insistence that the hit song is not about him, fans on social media pointed out various phrases that coincide with the pair's affair, such as their seven-year age difference, the DJ's active nightlife, and the timeframe of their fling.

Rodrigo describes her affair with Bia as "six months of torture" at the song's outset, which is how long it lasted. She worries why an older man would want to date someone so young in the second stanza before recognizing that "girls your age know better."

Another theory about Vampire

Some listeners have hypothesised that Vampire is actually about Taylor Swift and not an ex-boyfriend. Rodrigo has always identified as a Swift fan and credited the diva with serving as an inspiration for some of her finest hits. On Rodrigo's song Deja Vu Swift and co-writer Jack Antonoff received retroactive co-writing credits in July 2021, sparking reports that the two had a falling out.
