Maharaj First Look Out: Junaid Khan To Lock Horns With Jaideep Ahlawat In A Period Drama

Junaid Khan, Aamir Khan's son, will make his acting debut with Maharaj, co-starring Jaideep Ahlawat in the lead role.

Aamir Khan's elder son Junaid Khan is all set to make his acting debut alongside Jaideep Ahlawat in the movie Maharaj, based on true events. The makers, on Wednesday, shared the first poster of the movie unveiling the character look of Junaid and Jaideep. Along with the poster, the makers also announced the release date of the movie.

Maharaj is set in pre-independence India

The official Instagram handle of Netflix shared a poster in which both Jaideep and Junaid look fierce. The movie is set in pre-independence India in 1862 and features Jaideep as a spiritual guru and Junaid as Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer. Mulji's commitment to justice led him to confront a powerful figure in the infamous Maharaj Libel Case. The movie will resurrect the forgotten story, shedding light on Mulji's bravery.

In the poster, Junaid, dressed in a white shirt and brown white coat, sports long hair and a moustache. Jaideep, on the other hand, looks like a priest, sporting a ponytail and tilak on his forehead.

"The fight for the truth between a powerful man and a fearless journalist. Based on true events," read the caption. Maharaj will premiere on Netflix on June 14.

What else do we know about Maharaj?

The movie is helmed by Siddharth P Malhotra while it is being bankrolled by Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films Entertainment. As per the synopsis shared by the streaming giant, "The year is 1862, a time when there were only three universities in India, Rabindranath Tagore is a year old and the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 continues to fan the flames of independence. Against all odds, one man takes a courageous stand in a landmark legal battle, a true story that’s now come to light in Maharaj — more than 160 years later.”

Apart from Junaid and Jaideep, the movie also stars Sharvari Wagh in a special appearance role.
