Dev Patel shares the inspiration behind filming Monkey Man

During its world premiere in April, Dev Patel shared that the film draws inspiration from stories he heard during his childhood. The plot centers on a forest villager seeking revenge against corrupt authority figures. Patel stars in the film, alongside Sikandar Kher, Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Sobhita Dhulipala, Makarand Deshpande, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, and Adithi Kalkunte.

The synopsis of the film reads, "A young man ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he's beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, he discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city's sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him."

The film was a commercial hit, grossing $34.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $10 million, proving its financial success, as per Variety.
