Samantha Ruth Prabhu is gearing up for the release of her upcoming highly anticipated show Citadel: Honey Bunny, co-starring Varun Dhawan. A few days ago, the makers unveiled the trailer of the spy drama that shows Samantha and Varun performing high-octane stunts apart from using guns. However, not many know that Samantha didn't want to be part of the series and "begged" director duo Raj and DK to replace her.

I sent four options to them: Samantha Ruth Prabhu

In an interview with Galatta India, Samantha candidly spoke about how she pleaded with Raj and DK to replace her from the series. The actress has been diagnosed with myositis, an autoimmune disorder that affects her muscles. Owing to the same, the actress begged the director to replace her and even gave them four options, whom she thought would have been a great fit. "I begged them to move on because I really didn’t think I could do it. I was really sure I couldn’t. I sent other recommendations, ‘Look at this heroine, she is so amazing. She will kill it. I beg you I can’t do this.’ I sent like four options to them. I was really not well,” she said.

However, Raj and DK stayed firm on their decision and didn't allow her to leave. She expressed gratitude to the directors after watching the final product saying, "Now, watching this show, I am so thankful that they didn’t make it without me and that I found the strength to do it. Even before the verdict is out for this show, I am going to give it to myself for pulling through.”

Varun Dhawan shares what he learned from Samantha Ruth Prabhu

During the trailer launch event, Varun praised Samantha for her efforts and said he had never been on a shoot where he would have to witness a co-actor going through challenges. "You learn a lot about human resilience and strength when you see someone battling something and still succeeding. Samantha inspired not just me, but also Raj, DK, Sita, and everyone at Amazon . Her dedication to this action show is truly inspirational," Varun added.
