Vijayakanth, DMDK founder and veteran Tamil actor, died on December 28, 2023, leaving the entire nation in shock. Vijayakanth aka Capatin was quite popular among the masses and several politicians, along with celebrities from the film industry, offered their condolences and paid their last respects to him in Chennai. Tamil star Arun Vijay was also amongst them as he recently paid homage to Captain at his memorial.

Arun Vijay pays his last respects to Captain

Arun Vijay, who is currenly busy with the shooting of his film Vanagan, reached Chennai to pay his last respects to Vijayakanth at his memorial. The actor attended the memorial with a fractured arm and offered a huge garland as mark of respect to the late star. For the unversed, Arun Vijay could not attend Vijayakanth's funeral, following which he visited his memorial in person to pay his last respects.

Speaking to the media, he said, "At that time, due to my injury, I could not participate in Vijayakant Ayya’s funeral. That said, it has become an incurable scar on my mind. People who come into the film industry and want to be like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. They are also great actors. But I always wanted to be a great action hero like Vijayakanth."

Did Suriya break down at Captain's memorial?

Suriya paid tribute to Vijayakanth at his memorial today, January 5. The actor was unable to attend Captain's funeral as he was on a vacation with his family ahead of New Year. However, after he landed in India, he reached Chennai to pay homage to Captain at his memorial. At the memorial, Suriya was seen visibly shaking and breaking down in tears while paying his last respects. He even offerend a huge garland as a mark of respect. A video of the same has gone viral on social media.

Where was Vijayakanth laid to rest?

Vijayakanth was laid to rest in a sandalwood coffin. The inscription "Puratchi Kalaingan Captain Vijayakanth" was carved on the coffin. Vijayakanth, DMDK founder, was laid to rest with full state honours at his party headquarters in Koyambedu, Chennai. Around 72 rounds of ammunition were fired as a mark of respect during the funeral. Several actors and ministers had reached Chennai to pay their last respects to Captain.
