Vijayakanth died at a private hospital in Chennai at the age of 71. The DMDK founder was laid to rest at his party headquarters in Koyambedu with full state honour. Recently, actor Suriya paid homage to Captain at his memorial and offered his condolences to his family members.

Did Suriya break down at Captain's memorial?

Suriya paid tribute to Vijayakanth at his memorial today, January 5. The actor was unable to attend Captain's funeral as he was on a vacation with his family ahead of New Year. Hoiwever, after he landed in India, he reached Chennai to pay homage to Captain at his memorial. At the memorial, Suriya was seen visibly shaking and breaking down in tears while paying his last respects. He even offerend a huge garland as a mark of respect. A video of the same has gone viral on social media.

Where was Vijayakanth laid to rest?

Vijayakanth was laid to rest in a sandalwood coffin. The inscription "Puratchi Kalaingan Captain Vijayakanth" was carved on the coffin. Vijayakanth, DMDK founder, was laid to rest with full state honours at his party headquarters in Koyambedu, Chennai. Around 72 rounds of ammunition were fired as a mark of respect during the funeral. Several actors and ministers had reached Chennai to pay their last respects to Captain.

Rajinikanth gets emotional at Vijayakanth's funeral

In the video that has surfaced online, Rajinikanth was seen weeping in his car while others held his hand to console him after the funeral. 

Rajinikanth was distraught  and looked visibly shaken by Captain's death. The actor could not hold back his tears and broke down inside his car while the fellow mourners came to help him. After hearing the news of Vijayakanth's death, Rajinikanth had left the shooting of his film to pay his last respects to Captain in Chennai. Rajinikanth offered his condolences to Vijayakanth's wife Premalatha Vijayakanth and his sons.
