Gautham Vasudev Menon made his directorial debut with the 2001 movie Minnale, starring R Madhavan and Reema Sen in the lead roles. The movie earned positive reviews and became a commercial success. Seeing the success, it was remade in Hindi titled Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein which marked R Madhavan's Bollywood debut. Over the years, the movie became a cult-classic movie. However, do you know, that Gautham hated Madhavan after he narrated the script to the latter?

Why Gautham Menon hated Madhavan?

On the occasion of O2india, Gautham shared a video dedicated to Mani Ratnam in which he talked about him in length. He recalled several incidents, but out of all, one of them grabbed our attention. He revealed Madhavan forced him to narrate the script of Minnale to Mani Ratnam. He asked him if the Ponniyin Selvan director would give a green signal then only he would do the project. Owing to this, he hated Madhavan.

“I was made to go and narrate my first script Minnale to Mani sir by Madhavan. He said, ‘If Mani sir green lights the project, then this project is on.’ I hated Madhavan for that, for making me go through what I thought was going to be an ordeal. Here, I was someone in awe of that man (Mani Ratnam). How could I go narrate my story to him? I botched up the narration. However, somehow the film happened," Gautham shared.

How did Madhavan agree to do Minnale?

In another interview, Gautham recalled how Mani Ratnam was not impressed by the plot of Minnale. Despite declining the project, Madhavan agreed to do the film with Gautham as he felt sorry for forcing the director. The film tells the story of a love-struck man, who steals the identity of his former college foe, to pursue his lady love and the eventual repercussions he has to face when his cover is blown before he can come clean.
