Director S Shankar is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role. The movie serves as the sequel to the 1996 hit movie Indian. Now, ahead of the release, the director is busy promoting the movie and during one such interview, the director revealed the reason behind releasing the sequel after so long.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, the director was asked what took him so long to make the sequel of Indian. To this, he replied that after India, he made a few other movies and whenever he would go through newspapers, it would be filled with bribe and corruption news. He further shared that it took him time to come up with the story since everything was already shown in the first instalment.
Opening up about the challenges he faced while writing Indian 2, the director said, "Of course, it is more challenging to develop a story for a sequel than a new subject. Everyone already knows about Indian film so it is double challenging to bring something new to the table."
For the unversed, Indian 2 is releasing after 28 years in the theatres on July 12.
Apart from Kamal Haasan, the movie also stars Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, S. J. Suryah, Bobby Simha, Vivek, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani and Nedumudi Venu in the pivotal roles. The story follows Senapathy, a freedom fighter turned vigilante who fought against corruption in India. He returns from Hong Kong to aid Chitra Varadharajan, who has been exposing corrupt politicians in the country through videos on the internet.
