Indian 2 Trailer: Kamal Haasan As Senapathy Fights Against Corrupt System

The trailer for Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan, premiered on Tuesday evening. Directed by Shankar, this film is a sequel to the 1996 movie Indian, where Kamal portrayed Senapathy, a freedom fighter battling corruption. Now, 28 years later, Kamal reprises his role in the sequel.

The trailer introduces Siddharth’s character, who critiques the flaws in the system. It highlights societal issues such as unemployment, corruption, and lack of development, and reintroduces Kamal’s Senapathy, who is back to save society. Kamal’s character is shown in various disguises, similar to the first film, and declares a “war of independence.” He states, “This is the second war of independence. You take the Gandhian approach, while I take Netaji’s approach.”

What more do we know about Indian 2?

Indian 2 was initially announced in 2017 during the finale of Bigg Boss Tamil by Kamal. After producer Dil Raju withdrew, Lyca Productions took over the project. Filming began in 2019 but was interrupted in 2020 by a tragic on-set accident that resulted in three fatalities and several injuries. The accident, caused by a crane collapse, claimed the lives of the director’s personal assistant Madhu, assistant director Krishna, and crew member Chandran. Following the incident, Kamal and the director contributed Rs 1 crore each to the families of the deceased and provided financial assistance to the severely injured.

In his condolence message on X, Kamal expressed his sorrow, stating, “I have faced and overcome many accidents, but today’s is the most horrific one. I have lost three colleagues. More than my own pain, the distress of their family members will be many times greater. I share their grief as one of them. My deepest condolences to them.”

Alongside Kamal, the film features Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, SJ Surya, Gulshan Grover, and Piyush Mishra. Indian 2 is set to release in theaters in July 12.
