Maharaja is having a good run at the box office as the daily collection has been steady even on the first Monday. The movie opened at ₹4.7 crore at the domestic box office and went on to earn double over the weekend. However, the daily collection witnessed a drop on Monday but still managed to pass the test.
Vijay Sethupathi starrer has minted ₹6.15 crore on Monday, higher than the opening day. ₹5.15 crore was earned in Tamil language and in Telugu language it earned ₹1 crore. Adding the fourth-day collection, the total now stands at ₹28 crore in India. It seems the Bakrid holiday helped the movie. Maharaja had an overall 33.83 per cent Tamil occupancy on Monday with the maximum reported in the Pondicherry region (47.50 per cent).
The movie is directed by Nithilan Saminathan and produced by Sudhan Sundaram & Jagadish Palanisamy under Passion Studios, The Route and Think Studios. It also stars Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Munishkanth and Natarajan Subramaniam, among others. The plot revolves around Vijay's character Maharaj, who is a barber by profession in K. K. Nagar. Ajneesh Loknath scored the music, while the film's cinematography was handled by Dinesh Purushothaman. In the film, he tells the police that his "Lakshmi" is missing after a home robbery, leaving them confused about whether it is a person or an object.
As per a report by 123 Telugu, Netflix has secured the digital streaming rights for Maharaja. However, the makers are yet to confirm the news by announcing the premiere date.
