Amidst many theories, a new report suggests that the split between Jayam Ravi and Aarti might be due to her mother, Sujatha Vijayakumar, and her brother.
Jayam Ravi, who has been rumoured to going through issues in marriage for a few months, announced divorce from his wife Aarti. On September 9, the actor posted a statement in both Tamil and English on social media to inform his fans about their separation. Although the couple has not mentioned a specific reason for their split, various reports suggest that Aarti's mother and her brother played a role in ending their 15-year marriage.
What is the reason behind Jayam Ravi-Aarti's divorce?
Amidst many theories, a new report from FilmiBEAT suggests that the split between Jayam Ravi and Aarti might be due to Aarti’s mother, Sujatha Vijayakumar, and her adopted son, Shankar. According to the report, Jayam Ravi was involved in a shoot overseen by Shankar and Sujatha Vijayakumar, which led to some disagreements.
Additionally, Jayam Ravi requested ₹25 crore for his next film with Pandiraj. However, Sujatha Vijayakumar reportedly pressured the director to cut the film's budget, claiming that Ravi did not have the market value to justify such a high fee. This pressure caused Pandiraj to withdraw from the project.
Sujatha Vijayakumar also produced the films Siren and Bhoomi, both of which starred her son-in-law, Jayam Ravi.
Jayam Ravi and Aarti request for privacy as they announce divorce
Taking to his X account, Jayam Ravi wrote that he and Aarti have decided on the "dissolution of his marriage" after careful consideration. He also requested to respect their privacy as well as that of their family during this difficult time. He further asked the fans to "refrain from making any assumptions, rumours, or allegations" regarding their divorce.
"It is with a heavy heart that I must share a deeply personal update with all of you. After much thought, reflections and discussions, I have taken the difficult decision to proceed with the dissolution of my marriage with Aarti. This decision was not made out of haste and it stems from personal reasons that I believe are in the best interests of everyone involved," he wrote.
He added, "In light of this, I hereby kindly request all of you to respect our privacy as well as that of our family members during this difficult time and appeal to all of you to refrain from making any assumptions, rumors, or allegations in this regard and let the matter remain private."
He concluded by writing, "My priority has always remained the same - to continue bringing joy and entertainment through my films to my dearest audience. I am still and will always be your Jayam Ravi - who is cherished by all of you throughout my career and as an actor who is dedicated to my craft and commitment to showcasing the best of my talent. Your constant support means the world to me and I am grateful for the love you have showered on me over the years."
Jayam Ravi got married to Aarti in 2009. They are parents to two sons, one of whom named Aarav has appeared in the actor's movie Tik Tik Tik (2018).
