Raayan Box Office Collection Day 3: Dhanush Starrer Mints ₹42.15 Crore In Opening Weekend

Dhanush starrer Raayan is enjoying a run at the domestic box office. The movie opened at ₹13.65 crore in India, becoming the biggest opener for Dhanush's career. On the second day, the movie witnessed 0.73 per cent hike, minting ₹13.75 crore. On Sunday, the movie was expected to earn more and well it did. However, shied away by a few numbers to enter ₹50 crore club in the opening weekend.

Helmed by Dhanush himself, the movie minted ₹14.75 crore, per early estimates reported by Sacnilk. Adding the three-day collection, the total stands at ₹42.15 crore. Raayan had an overall 67.31 per cent Tamil occupancy on Sunday with the maximum reported in Dindigul (86.75 per cent).

The movie is having a tough competition with Hollywood superhero flick Deadpool & Wolverine, which is racking big bucks in India. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the movie minted ₹66.15 crore in the opening weekend in India. In terms of worldwide, it racked up $438 million, becoming the all-time 8th-highest opener.

What else do we know about Raayan?

Apart from Dhanush, the movie also stars  S. J. Suryah, Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, Prakash Raj and Selvaraghavan in pivotal roles.  The film follows Kathavaraayan "Raayan", a fast-food hotel owner in North Chennai, who hunts down the gangs who ruined his family earlier. The movie has earned mixed reviews from critics, who praised the actor for his performance, direction, screenplay and score, but criticised Raayan's storyline and writing in the post-interval portions.
