Actor Sathyaraj recently dispelled rumours about his involvement in a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a pre-release event for Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan on May 29. Speaking at the event, Sathyaraj humorously remarked that he would have considered the role if the film were directed by his late friend, Manivannan, who was a follower of the anti-caste icon Periyar. He further jested that the biopic would turn out well if directed by contemporary Tamil anti-caste filmmakers like Vetrimaaran, Pa Ranjith, or Mari Selvaraj.

Sathyaraj denies rumours of working in PM Modi's biopic

Rumours had been circulating that Sathyaraj, known nationally for his roles in Chennai Express and the Baahubali series, would portray Modi. These rumours were particularly amusing given Sathyaraj's staunch support for Periyar and his frequent choice of a black shirt, a symbol of protest associated with Periyarists.

Addressing the speculation, Sathyaraj stated, “Nobody has approached me [to play the role of Modi]. Even if they did, I might have considered it if it were directed by my friend, the late Manivannan, who portrayed characters 'as they were'.” He also joked that he would be open to acting in the biopic if it were directed by Vijay Milton, the director of Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan, without any propaganda, or by directors like Vetrimaaran, Pa Ranjith, or Mari Selvaraj, who are known for their critical stance against the right-wing.

Sathyaraj reveals being a part of Coolie

During the press meet, Sathyaraj also announced his role in Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. This project marks a reunion between Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj after a long hiatus.

The two actors had collaborated on several iconic films early in their careers but had stopped working together due to personal differences. Sathyaraj has, on various occasions, made light-hearted jabs at Rajinikanth, noting that Rajinikanth is not a native of Tamil Nadu.
