Vijayakanth funeral: Rajinikanth cancels Vettaiyan shoot to pay homage to Captain in Chennai

BREAKING | Vijayakanth, founder of DMDK and veteran Tamil actor, died at a private hospital in Chennai on December 28. Following his demise, Rajinikanth cancelled the shoot of his film Vettaiyan to pay tribute to DMDK chief and Captain Vijayakanth. The Jailer actor reached Island ground in Chennai's Anna Salai to pay his last respects. 

Rajinikanth pays homage to Vijayakanth

Rajinikanth was shooting for his film Vettaiyan in Tuticorin along with Fahadh Faasil and others. However, after hearing the news of Vijayakanth's death, the actor left the shooting of his film and rushed to Chennai to pay his last respects to Captain in Chennai. In the video that surfaced online, Rajinikanth can be seen meeting Premalatha Vijayakanth, Captain's wife, and offering his heartfelt condolences to her. He further paid his last respects to Vijayakanth and offered flowers to his mortal remains in a glass casket. 

Rajinikanth expressed his grief on Vijayakanth's death

Speaking to media from the Tuticorin airport, Rajinikanth said, “My heart aches. Vijayakanth was a man with great willpower. Lastly, I saw him at the DMDK's genral body meeting and thought he would bounce back after battling his health issues. His death is a huge loss to the people of Tamil Nadu.”

He further said, "If he was healthy, he would have been a formidable force in politics. He would have done so many good deeds for the people. People of Tamil Nadu have now lost him. May his soul rest in peace."

Thalapathy Vijay breaks down at Vijayakanth's funeral

Thalapathy Vijay rushed to attend the funeral of late actor Vijayakanth. Although the late actor's native place is Madurai, his cremation will take place at his party office in Chennai. Ahead of his cremation, the Leo actor paid his last respects to Vijayakanth and after seeing his mortal remains, the actor kept weeping while looking at him through the glass casket.
