Bigg Boss 18 is all set to start on October 6, 2024, with the grand premiere. As the countdown begins, the creators have released a teaser featuring the first contestant. Although the promo does not clearly show the contestant's face, fans quickly recognised her as actress Shilpa Shirodkar, as previously speculated. Known for her role in the TV show Ek Mutthi Aasmaan, Shilpa is a household name but many may not know that she was one of the leading actresses of the 90s and is the sister-in-law of Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu .

Who is Bigg Boss 18 confirmed contestant Shilpa Shirodkar?

Shilpa Shirodkar was born on November 20, 1973, into a family with strong ties to the film industry. She is the daughter of Marathi actress Gangu Bai and the granddaughter of iconic Meenakshi Shirodkar. She has one elder sister named Namrata Shirodkar, who is a former Miss India and married to Tollywood star Mahesh Babu .

Shilpa began her career as a print model before debuting in Ramesh Sippy's 1989 film Bhrashtachar, where she played a blind girl alongside Mithun Chakraborty and Rekha. Her performance received praise, leading to more film offers. In 1990, she played her first lead role opposite Anil Kapoor in the hit film Kishen Kanhaiya. Over the next few years, she worked with prominent Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan , Govinda , Aamir Khan, and Akshay Kumar . Some of her notable films include Khuda Gawah (1992), Aankhen (1993), Pehchaan (1993), and Gopi Kishan (1994).

At the peak of her career, Shilpa married Aparesh Ranjit, a UK-based banker, in 2000. After marriage, she stepped away from acting, with her last film being Gaja Gamini in the same year. The couple has a daughter.

After a 13-year break to raise her family in London, Shilpa returned to television in 2013 after moving back to Mumbai. In February 2020, she made a comeback to films with a supporting role in Guns of Banaras, a project completed in 2014 but delayed for six years.

Bigg Boss 18 is set to premiere on October 6, and this year’s theme is around the intertwining of the past, present and future. On October 3, the creators released a promo aligned with this theme. In the promo, Shilpa describes herself as “unconventional” and “bold,” mentioning that people once referred to her as the “sensational queen” of her time. She also revealed that one of her dreams was to collaborate with Salman Khan, and she is thrilled that this will soon become a reality.

This marks Shilpa's first appearance on a reality show, and her entrance has already generated excitement. TV actress Anita Hassanandani shared her enthusiasm, stating, “@shilpashirodkar73 Yaaaaaay! I’m already glued to the tv Kill it,” showing her support for Shilpa.
