Reem Shaikh opens up about unfair treatment on sets: I struggle to receive respect

Reem Shaikh, known for roles in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat, recently talked about getting unfair treatment on television sets. The actress has had a 15-year career that started when she was just six years old, but she feels she is frequently feels disrespected because of her age.

In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Reem reveals she is often belittled by the people on the set and they treat her differently than other leads on the show. The actress said, “Even after working for around fifteen years in the industry, I still strive to get the same respect as other leads of a show who're older than me. I feel that's unfair, I'm also a lead of the show and the team should treat me with the same respect on the sets. But many times, because I'm young people take me for granted.”

Reem talked about the inequalities she encounters on set, pointing out in particular the stark disparity in pay scales and how she feels mistreated. She brought up the fact that, because of her age, higher authorities frequently ignore her when they pay her a visit, thinking, "She's just a child, why bother asking her?" 

Reem brought up another example of her unfair treatment when she pointed out that other main actors were given the same amenities, but she was not given a single-door vanity van. Reem underlined that such factors ought to be taken into account given her extensive work and performance.

On the work front, Reem Shaikh was last seen in Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal, which was trolled for being a copy of the popular show The Vampire Diaries. 

Next, the actress will be a part of a web series with Jennifer Winger and Karan Wahi. Its plot, according to reports, will center on the story of two sisters, played by the actresses.
