I Was A Divorcee: SS Rajamouli's Wife Rama Reveals Rejecting Director's Marriage Proposal At First

SS Rajamouli has become one of the veteran filmmakers of India since his last movie RRR roar across the world winning The Academy Awards for Best Original Song - Naatu Naatu.  While the professional life of the director is well known, he likes to keep his personal life private. Speaking of which, in his recently released Netflix documentary Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli, his wife Rama revealed she hesitated to marry him and the reason is not what you think.

Opening up about how they met and fell in love, Rama recalled that he met the Baahubali director during her sister's wedding. "Nothing striking as far as I remember. He’s my brother-in-law’s brother so that’s how we know each other, she continued. Adding to it, she said that it was "not a very romantic" thing as they both were mature adults when they started dating. However, she was shocked, when SS Rajamouli proposed to her and immediately refused.

Elaborating on why she refused, Rama said that she was a divorcee and had a son with her first marriage. So she thought it was "meaningless" for SS Rajamouli to come up with this thought.

How did SS Rajamouli convince Rama to marry him?

Rama, who is a costume designer and film stylist, shared that SS Rajamouli managed to convince her and they eventually got married in 2001. “Like everything else, he is very persistent in his things. So finally, after a year or so, we thought we will go ahead with this (decision to marry),” she said. Rama has a son Karthikeya, who has also served as assistant director in SS Rajamouli's movies.  Later, the couple welcomed a daughter Mayookha.
