Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming film, GOAT - previously titled Thalapathy 68, may find itself in the midst of a controversy in the future, much like the Rajinikanth led Jailer's legal entanglement prior to its release. The Venkat Prabhu directorial's recently announced title - GOAT - is reportedly the same as Telugu director Naresh Kuppili's next project.
Naresh Kuppili objects to Thalapathy Vijay film's title
As per recent source-based reports doing the rounds of the internet, Telugu director Naresh Kuppili has expressed objection to the recently announced title of the Thalapathy Vijay led film, GOAT. Kuppili's next project is also titled GOAT, the promotional work for which he says has already begun. The director is now worried about having two films with the same title - one bigger than the other - release within such a short time span of each other. For the unversed, Naresh Kuppili helmed the Vishwak Sen led 2021 film Paagal.

Thalapthy 68's title announcement was made on New Year's Eve coupled with a first look from the film. GOAT - an acronym for Greatest of All Time - marks Thalapathy Vijay's first collaboration with Venkat Prabhu. The film features an ensemble cast comprising of Meenakshi Chaudhary, Mic Mohan, Jayaram, Prabhu Deva and Yogi Babu.

Thalapathy Vijay's Leo had also briefly tackled a similar issue
This is not the first time a Thalapathy Vijay film's title has sparked controversy. The actor's last release Leo was also embroiled in a case alleging that the rights to the title 'Leo' were held by a separate director. The issue however, was resolved.

A similar controversy also plagued the Rajinikanth starrer Jailer, with Malayalam director Sakkir Madathil also filing a case asserting that the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial must change its name - the case was eventually dismissed.
