Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) happens to be a common hormonal disorder that affects women. It causes the ovaries to enlarge with small cysts on the outer edges. The cause is not certain as of now. However, it does involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

The symptoms include menstrual irregularity, excess hair growth, weight gain, skin problems and much more. While medical treatment is essential, many lifestyle changes can also contribute to rectifying the condition. From maintaining weight to following a low-carb diet, little things can make a big difference.

Here are a few lifestyle changes that can improve your condition.

Maintaining a healthy weight

It is very important to keep your weight in check. Weight loss lowers insulin and androgen levels thus helping in restoring ovulation. A physician usually recommends weight loss through a low-calorie diet and exercising regularly.

Exercising regularly

Movement is the key. Regular movement can help in combating PCOS. It helps you fight obesity by burning calories and building muscle mass. Not just for PCOS but exercise can also help lower cholesterol levels and other hormones like testosterone.

Sleep hygiene

Maintaining sleep hygiene is very important for women suffering from PCOS. We all know that getting a good night’s sleep is important for our overall health but a deep sleep can help improve the symptoms of PCOS. Many studies have shown that getting deep sleep can regulate insulin levels, which can reduce the risk of developing diabetes. Also, deep sleep can reduce inflammation throughout the body, which can help lower some of the symptoms of PCOS.

High protein intake

Clean protein intake can help fuel the body with energy and strength. It also helps in balancing weight. Along with this, greens and fresh vegetables are high in nutrients and low in calories. Many studies have highlighted how many women with PCOS suffer from vitamin B deficiency. Green leafy vegetables like kale and spinach contain high levels of vitamin B and this is why adding them to your diet can prove to be highly beneficial.
