MP Flood: State Government seeks Rs 11,906 cr relief fund from Centre

Madhya Pradesh Govt officials have notified the central team of the losses faced by the state to seek for immediate financial aid for rehabilitation purposes

Madhya Pradesh has recently suffered a loss of Rs. 11,906 crore during the floods. The State Government officials have notified the central team to seek for immediate financial aid for rehabilitation purposes. The officials have made a request for financial assistance of Rs. 11,906 crore to Madhya Pradesh before the central team headed by Sandeep Poundrik. Poundrik is the joint secretary of the National Disaster Management Authority. He is currently on a visit to the State. Rakesh Singh, state BJP Chief, had earlier alleged that the Congress Government has 'turned a deaf ear' to the problems being faced by the farmers and other people due to heavy downpour and subsequent floods in MP.

MP heavily affected by the downpour 

Three dozen districts have been gravely affected by the floods and the downpour in the state. The figure is loosely based on the initial assessment of the damage which was a consequence of the heavy rains. The rainfall and the floods have already claimed over 225 lives so far. The officials on September 19 held a meeting with the central team members and notified them of the huge losses. The officials stated that 36 of the 52 districts have suffered serious losses due to heavy rains and floods. Furthermore, the central team is scheduled to investigate the losses in Vidisha, Raisen, Rajgarh, Mandsaur, and Agar Malwa districts.

8,000 villages affected

Reports have come in of over 8,000 villages across 36 out of the 52 districts in the State being affected by the incessant rains and floods. The floods have damaged crops on 24 lakh hectares of land, which further affected the devasted farmers. The damage caused to the crops has been estimated to be around Rs 9,600 crore. The roads have also suffered as a consequence of the floods. The Public Relations Department Officer further stated that the Central team was notified that 225 people and 1,400 cattle were killed in the heavy rains, floods, and lightning.
