Kerala logs 6250 new COVID-19 cases

Malappuram recorded 680 cases, Thrissur 647, Kottayam 629, Palakkad 491, Thiruvananthapuram 488, Kolam 458, kannur 315, Alappuzha 309, Wayand 251, Idukki 178, Pathanamthitta 141 and Kasaragod 137 cases on Saturday.

Kerala reported 6,250 new positive cases on Saturday and 25 COVID-19 deaths, taking the caseload in the state to 5,93,957 and the death toll to 2,196. State Health Minister K K Shailaja said the state had tested 63,983 samples in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.77 per cent.

The state has tested61,78,012 till now. "On Saturday, 5,275 people were cured taking the total cured in the state to 5,26,797," the minister said in a release. Out of those infected today, 92 reached the state from outside, while 5,474 contracted the disease through their contacts. The source of infection of 628 people are yet to be traced," the release said.

Out of the districts, Ernakulam reported 812 new positive cases, the highest in the state today, followed by Kozhikode with 714.

At least 56 health workers were also infected on Saturday, the minister said.

"Currently, there are 64,834 people under treatment for COVID-19 in the state.At least 3,12,251 are under observation in the state out of which 16,028 are in isolation wards of various hospitals," she said.

Six new hotspots were added on Saturday while two regions were removed and currently there are530 hotspots in the state.
