Mumbai Rains update: IMD predicts heavy showers for next two days

The Indian Meteorological Department on Saturday predicted "heavy to very heavy rainfall" for Mumbai and adjoining areas on Sunday and Monday. The Colaba observatory has recorded a rainfall of 70 mm in the last 24 hours ended on Saturday morning, which is higher compared to the quantum of rains recorded by the Santacruz Centre.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely for the next two days in the city and its adjoining areas," said IMD Chief PRO Vishambhar Singh. The IMD has predicted a cloudy weather for this period.

Mumbai braces for heavier showers

Mumbai rains have picked up the pace with some parts recording heavy rainfall. According to reports, intense rains in some parts may even result in water logging in low lying areas. Rainfall in Mumbai is expected to continue on Saturday, reducing slightly on Sunday but moderate showers will continue even then. Rains have been occurring in Central suburbs like Kalyan, Dombivali, Badlapur, Kurla and Chembur over the past couple of hours.

Earlier on Saturday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) took to Twitter and updated the city about the IMD forecast which predicted heavy downpour in the metropolis. 

Skymet also took to Twitter and stated that moderate rain and thundershower will be witnessed in Mumbai in the next few hours.

Visuals from rain-hit Mumbai

Social media users shared some visuals of rain-hit Mumbai and suburbs where heavy rainfall caused water-logging and traffic around the city. Several BEST buses had to be diverted from their usual routes after severe water-logging was noticed on the streets.
