The employees of the famous Lalitha Jewellery store in Trichy were shocked to see the scene early in the morning when they opened the shop. They saw only empty trays and showcases where they normally exhibit gold jewels, and the ground floor was emptied by the burglars, the police say. The jewelry shop is located at the main road, which is one of the largest showrooms located at Trichy with more than 200 employees, 20 securities, and 60 CCTV cameras in surveillance.

'Hollywood-style burglary'

On watching the CCTV footage, they found that two members were wearing animal masks and packing all the jewels in a sack, just like a scene from the movie. The footage shows that they were there from 2.10 am to 3.15 am. The police who reached the spot immediately found that the burglars entered the showroom by drilling a hole in the wall which is enough for a man to enter, in the backside of the building where they've placed AC vents. The area had less security and doesn't fall under any of the CCTV cameras.

Even the police were shocked to see the scene as to how did they drill the wall in such a short time and entered inside and stole almost 100 kgs of gold which is worth Rs 50 crore. Police also suspect that there could be a large group involved in this since just two members cannot carry 100 kgs of gold, they also suspect that they would've planned this for a long time, by visiting the place multiple times before venturing into it. The Trichy police have formed seven special teams to investigate the matter. Three teams would be investigating with the CCTV footage while the four teams would probe the matter from the ground.

The burglars who left the place have also spilled chilly powder all over to evade sniffer dogs - the police sources say that they've found only a screwdriver in the place and the forensic team is trying to trace the other details.
