The case of impersonation

K V Udit Surya in a gimmick, had allegedly asked another individual to appear for the exam and counselling. However, Surya joined the college, later on, to attend the classes. Doubts were raised against him when his picture did not match with the one on his identity card which challenged his position in the college. After his impersonation came to light, Surya stopped attending college, citing 'depression' in a letter to state his reason for discontinuation. His house in North Chennai has been locked with no traces of Surya. This probed the Tamil Nadu Police to form special teams to find Surya and the person who impersonated him. This incident prompted Theni Medical College to further check all the photographs of the students to make sure that they matched. The Medical College ensured that this procedure would take a day to complete.

Aftermath

In the wake of the case of impersonation, the Selection Committee of the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) asked all the medical colleges to verify records of first-year MBBS students. In lieu of the case of the impersonation, certain necessary alterations are to be made. Measures such as fingerprints of students being mandatory so that such incidents do not occur in the future have been suggested. With the amalgamation of photographs, fingerprints and signatures, such incidents are to be avoided in the future.
