UPSC: Latest updates on UPSC exams, important dates and more!

The UPSC IAS Mains which began ten days ago on September 20, concluded this Sunday, September 29. UPSC conducts a Preliminary test for selecting candidates for the Mains. GK, or as it is referred to as General Studies, comprises of questions and facts which can be taken from literature, current affairs, history, geography, political science, science, economy etc.

UPSC Results

The results are highly anticipated, but there is no official confirmation yet on the date of results. The candidates who have appeared for the tests will be able to check the results once they are announced on the official website of the Union Public Service Commission https://upsc.gov.in

Exam Pattern for preliminary test

The exams will be carried out in three phases next year as usual. The entrance test is called the Civil Service Preliminary Exams. This is just a qualifying exam to move onto the mains. The prelims comprise of two General Awareness papers (Paper I & II) with multiple-choice questions lasting two hours. Every question attracts a 1/3 penalty for every wrong answer. As you clear the Preliminary exam, you become eligible to appear in the Mains written exams. Passing the mains qualifies you for the final personality test interview. Candidates who clear all the three rounds are recruited for the respective positions.

UPSC time table – know the important dates

The next civil services preliminary examination is scheduled to be held on 31st May 2020. UPSC will issue a notification for Civil Service Prelims and Indian Forest Service Prelims on 12th February. One can make applications till 3rd March 2020. The Mains will take place on September 18. The primary criteria for application is a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. It should be noted that the dates of notification, commencement and duration of Examination/RTs are liable to alteration if the circumstances so warrant.
