Prime Minister Narendra Modi elaborated on what he called the 'Congress’ own (lack of) internal democracy and sense of entitlement' in a fierce blog post on Wednesday, taking on the grand old party and alleging that over multiple generations, the Congress had sidelined institutions and tenets that form the bedrock of democracy.

While he wrote at length about how the Congress had repressed, sidelined or disrespected the press, the Constitution, the courts, the armed forces and others, at the climax of his post, he focused on the internal dynamics of the Congress. Here's what he wrote:

"Political parties are vibrant bodies that manifest diverse public opinion. Sadly, Congress does not believe in internal democracy.

If a leader dares to dream to head that party, he or she is shunted out of the Congress.

The sense of entitlement can be seen in their conduct towards routine legal processes. At present, their top leadership is on bail vis-a-vis a major scam. When the authorities seek to question them on their dealings, they do not even bother to reply.

Are they scared of accountability or do they not believe in it?"

Such a phenomenon was seen just days earlier as Congress party loyalist Tom Vadakkan left the party and joined the BJP, citing how had grown tired of defending the Congress and stating that it was the party's questioning of the forces after the Pulwama terror attack that eventually precipitated his departure. A day after this, Congress president Rahul Gandhi brushed off Vadakkan, saying 'he's not a big leader' in an insulting and high-handed tone.

Bizarrely, the Congress also mounted a spirited defence of dynastic politics in response to the Prime Minister's attack, saying that dynasty was encouraged in all industries and that PM Modi shouldn't opine on it because he didn't hail from dynasty:
