In one of the biggest dismissal orders in the history of Bihar police, the Bihar government has ordered for the dismissal of 175 constables which includes 79 women constables on disciplinary grounds for creating ruckus and mayhem in the Patna police line on 2nd November. 23 constables have been suspended and 93 constables have been transferred from Patna to other districts based on the video footage available of the incident.

These constables had gone on a rampage after the death of 22-year-old traffic policewoman Savita Pathak. The constables alleged that Savita Pathak was not keeping well and she was denied leave. After the death of Savita Pathak, the entire newly recruited constables deployed in Patna damaged more than 2 dozen vehicles in patna police line as well as broke the furniture, TV sets and equipment in the office of officers.

The constables chased and misbehaved with senior officers and did not allow senior officers to enter the Patna Police line. Constables even damaged public property outside the police lines. BMP battalion was sent to control the unruly constables.

Reacting on the incident, SSP Patna Manu Maharaj said:

"The indiscipline of forces cannot be tolerated. They will be arrested after due course after inquiry. Four FIRs have been lodged against these people. More constables are being identified for dismissal. The investigation is being done".

After winning the 2015 Bihar Vidhan Sabha elections, Nitish Kumar had announced 35 percent reservation for women in government jobs.  Sources in the police say that women constables do not want to work beyond 8 hours, which has created a lot of problem in the rank file.

All the more Nitish Kumar's decision pertaining to the upliftment of women was hailed but the indiscipline by the women constables in the police force is an eye opener.
