35 COVID-19 fatalities take death toll in West Bengal to 1,182; total tally of cases 47,030

West Bengal's COVID-19 toll mounted to 1,182 with 35 more deaths, as 2,261 fresh coronavirus cases pushed the state's total tally to 47,030, a health department bulletin said Tuesday.

West Bengal's COVID-19 toll mounted to 1,182 with 35 more deaths, as 2,261 fresh coronavirus cases pushed the state's total tally to 47,030, a health department bulletin said Tuesday.

Of the 35 deaths, 34 were because of comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental, it said.

Sixteen fatalities were reported from Kolkata, 13 from the neighbouring North 24 Parganas, and two each from South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly districts, it said.

The metropolis also accounted for 651 fresh cases followed by 456 in North 24 Parganas, 220 in Howrah, 207 in South 24 Parganas, 92 in Jalpaiguri, and 87 in Darjeeling, the bulletin stated.

The remaining 548 cases were reported from 14 other districts.

Since Monday, 1,617 patients have recovered and been discharged, the bulletin said, adding a total of 28,035 people have been cured.

At least 13,064 samples were tested during the period.

The number of broad-based containment zones in West Bengal stood at 838 on Tuesday, according to state government.

Meanwhile, 729 people have been arrested from Kolkata for violating safety guidelines, including not wearing masks and spitting in the open, a police official said.

Sixteen vehicles have been seized by police for violating safety restrictions, he said.
