707 fresh COVID-19 cases take Delhi's tally to over 1.46 lakh; CM hails 90 pc recovery rate

Delhi recorded 707 fresh coronavirus cases on Monday taking the city's tally to over 1.46 lakh, even as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that with a current recovery rate of over 90 per cent, people of the city are slowly and steadily defeating COVID-19.

The number of tests conducted on Monday stood at 12,323, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department. Delhi recorded 707 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 1,46,134, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 4,131, the bulletin said, adding that twenty fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate on August 10 stands at 5.7 per cent while the recovery rate crossed 90 per cent.

The national recovery rate stands at 69.33 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministy data updated at 8 am on Monday.

"Over 90% of Corona patients in Delhi have now recovered. Only 7% cases are active now. Slowly and steadily, the people of Delhi are defeating Corona. #DelhiModel," Kejriwal tweeted on Monday and shared a copy of the bulletin. From August 2-4, fresh cases had gradually dipped, showing three-figure count -- August 2 (961), August 3 (805) and August 4 (674).

However, from August 5-9, the daily cases were again recorded in excess of 1,000, falling again to a three-figure count on August 10. On Sunday, the daily cases count was 1,300 and 13 deaths were reported.

The tally of active cases on Monday fell to 10,346 from 10,729 the previous day.  On June 23, the national capital had reported the highest single-day spike of 3,947 till date. The death toll from COVID-19 in Delhi stood at 4,111 on Sunday.

The Monday bulletin said the death toll from coronavirus infection has risen to 4,131 and the total number of cases climbed to 1,46,134.  The number of Rapid Antigen Tests conducted on Monday stood at 9,012 while the RT-PCR, CBNAAT and True NAAT tests figures were 3,311, in all adding to 12,323, according to the bulletin. The total number of tests done till date in Delhi stands at 12,04,405. The number of tests done per million, as on Monday, was 63,389, it said. According to the Monday bulletin, out of the total number of beds in COVID hospitals, 10,412 are vacant.

Also, 3,238 beds in COVID care centres are occupied by persons under quarantine, including travellers who have returned by Vande Bharat Mission and bubble flights, it said. According to the bulletin, 1,31,657 patients have recovered, been discharged or migrated so far. The number of people in home isolation stands at 5,637. On Monday, the number of containment zones stood at 477.
