Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken on the Political situation in Maharashtra for the first time since President's rule was imposed in the state on the recommendation of the Governor. Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, the Home Minister and President of the BJP said,

"Before this, in no state was so much time given,18 days were given. Governor invited parties only after assembly tenure ended. Neither Shiv Sena nor Congress-NCP staked claim&neither we. Even if today any party has numbers it can approach Governor. #Maharashtra"

'New Demands not acceptable for us'

The BJP President speaking on the collapse of alliance with Shiv Sena said, "Before elections Prime Minister and I said many times in public that if our alliance wins then Devendra Fadnavis will be the CM, no one objected back then. Now they have come up with new demands which are not acceptable to us ." He also said that the BJP has not betrayed the mandate of the people. "The President's rule has resulted in a loss to the BJP as our sitting Chief Minister was the caretaker of the state. The Opposition has nothing to lose." Amit Shah added, "Even today if anyone has the numbers they can approach the Governor. The Governor has not denied chance to anyone. A learned lawyer like Kapil Sibal is putting forth childish arguments like ‘we were denied a chance to form Government."

NCP now eyes New Year deadline for Maharashtra govt formation

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar on Wednesday stated that "Before the New Year, the new government should be formed." Furthermore, the NCP leader said, "We have formed a committee which includes representatives of the Congress party. We have requested to meet and discuss the issue as early as possible." Coming to a conclusion with the Common Minimum Programme with Shiv Sena, Pawar said, "We can talk and come to a conclusion but we need to see how the talks are carried out with Sena. Before the new year, the new govt should be formed."

President Rule in Maharashtra

President Ram Nath Kovind, on Tuesday, accepted the Maharashtra Governor's recommendation and implemented President's rule in the state. Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed that now Maharashtra assembly is under suspended animation after the President officially signed the order. If no party stakes claim within six months, fresh elections will be held in the state. Earlier, the Governor had confirmed that he had recommended the same and submitted a report to the President, via MHA, according to the provisions of Art. 356 of the Constitution.
