Three people killed and several injured in a blast at the Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar, Punjab on Sunday afternoon.

Update at 7:50 PM: HS Phoolka has made a shocking statement saying the Army Chief could have orchestrated the attack.

"Army Chief came and made a statement. To prove his statement, he could have orchestrated the attack. This matter should be looked into. Did govt do it (attack)? Did the earlier govt do it now? It is wrong to repeatedly say that Punjab's atmosphere is not good. We must get to the root of it. Govt must get to the root of it. Those who made false statements about Maur blast, what action has been taken against them? What action has been taken against him? Punjab is a sensitive state. One must not make statements without facts. One must not make accusations. Get to the root of it - who did it? Why and how was it done? It's very important."

Update at 7.40 PM: According to top police sources, they have detained youth aged between 25-30 years old near the locality where blast has taken place for questioning.

Three member team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) to reach the blast site in Amritsar today. The blast that took place earlier in the day claimed three lives (ANI)

Update at 7.05 PM: High alert in Punjab and Amritsar Airport. No cabs or cars allowed at least 50 metres from the airport.

Update at 6:14 PM: Punjab DGP Suresh Arora visits the site

"We are taking this incident as a terror act. At this stage it is difficult to link up but we will find out in  further investigate It will be too early to cone to any conclusion. Overall we know that efforts were being made but in this particular case unless or until we come to conclusive evidence we cannot say anything at  this point of time. Let’s not get into presumptions. As far as this incident is concerned I would say that we will find out the truth and then will come back," he said.

Update at 5:22 PM: Youths aged between 25-30 years old detained for questioning, Punjab police relying on eye-witnesses, as per sources.

Update at 5:01 PM: DGP Punjab Suresh Arora has arrived at the attack site and is inspecting the matter.

Update at 4: 56 PM: Details from the preliminary investigations: 

The chief minister said preliminary investigations had so far revealed that two men, one of them with a flowing beard, with covered faces, allegedly forced their way into the hall by brandishing a pistol. The sewadar has been detained who lobbed the grenade into the prayer room, and fled on a motorcycle.

A crater, which is 3” in diameter was formed by the impact of the explosion, and was being examined by the forensic team. The safety valve of the grenade has also been found and was being examined.

Update at 1:39 PM: As per sources, among the three deceased in the attack, one is a minor.

Update at 1:37 PM: The attack was carried out at Nirankari Bhawan at a religious sect. Both the centre and state government must ensure to bring all the culprit to law. Update at 1:34 PM: Cops have seized the CCTV footage of the attack site

Update at 1:33 PM: As per latest information from sources, attackers, along with arms in their hands and faces covered, entered the Satsang Bhawan area and opened fire at the gathering. Later, they lobbed a bomb at the site.

Update at 1:31 PM: IG and senior police officials are at the spot. Security has been beefed up at the blast site.

Update at 1:10 PM: As per sources, around 150 people were inside ashram and doing a Satsang when the attack took place during attack. High alert has been issued in several parts of Northern India including Punjab and Delhi-NCR.

Update at 1:04 PM: Speaking to news agency ANI, IG Surinder Pal Singh Parmar confirmed that three people have died and more than 10 people have been injured in the blast that took place in Amritsar's Rajasansi Village

Three people killed and several injured in a blast at the Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar's Rajasansi Village on Sunday afternoon. The injured have immediately been rushed to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the police is at the spot and is taking cognizance of the incident. 

According to reports, two masked bike-borne assailants came outside the Nirankari Dera opened fire and then hurled an explosive at the congregation that was going on at the Nirankari Bhawan since Sunday morning.
