Andhra Pradesh NGO files case against panchayat officials

An animal welfare Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Andhra Pradesh has filed a case against panchayat officials of Kanteru Village in Guntur district alleging that they have poisoned 300 stray dogs in the last 20 days. According to reports, the complaint was filed in the Tadikonda Mandal police station. The police have registered an FIR and filed a case under the cruelty to animals act, stated reports. 

About the complaint

According to the Tadikonda Sub Inspector, Rajasekhar, the NGO 'Help For Animals Society' filed a complaint on Wednesday evening. Further, they named  Kanteru Village Secretary Ramesh and a private person Koteswar Rao for the alleged poisoning of dogs in the district over the last 20 days. He further mentioned that the police is visiting the village on Thursday. Along with it, they will send the dead bodies of the stray dogs for post mortem to find if they were poisoned.

Dog killings in Andhra Pradesh

Earlier in September, over 30 dogs were allegedly poisoned to death by the panchayat officials of Ramavarappadu in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada district, stated reports. Further reports stated that a resident of the Model Village Colony had caught the officials red-handed while killing the dogs and stuffing the carcasses into a garbage vehicle. The resident had immediately reported it to the animal welfare activists. According to reports, the NGO 'Help for Animals Society' activists had immediately rushed to the spot. According to the NGO, the local bodies have been violating the norms and killing the animals in the area. According to news reports, it was revealed that the local bodies were killing dogs by injecting potassium cyanide (a hazardous chemical). According to reports, earlier in July, around 50 stray dogs were allegedly poisoned to death by the panchayat officials at Haffpet village in Andhra Pradesh. It was revealed that the carcasses were dumped in a pit on the village outskirts.
