AP logs 1,378 new COVID-19 cases, 10 deaths

Amaravati, Sep 2 (PTI): At least five of 13 districts have shown an upward trend in weekly Covid-19 positivity rate while another seven have been witnessing a rise in the daily rate as Andhra Pradesh's cumulative coronavirus cases climbed to 20,16,680 on Thursday.

The day's Covid-19 bulletin said 1,378 fresh positives, 1,139 recoveries and 10 deaths were added in 24 hours ending 9 am today, to the state's tally.

Consequently, the active caseload increased to 14,702. The overall infection positivity rate, however, decreased from 7.76 to 7.55 per cent in the last eight days, according to the Medical and Health Department data.

After a total of 19,88,101 infected persons got cured so far, the overall recovery rate increased to 98.60 per cent.

The mortality rate rose marginally to 0.69 per cent as the gross toll touched 13,877, the data said.

According to the Medical and Health Department data, the weekly Covid-19 positivity rate increased by 1.08 per cent to 3.43 per cent in Chittoor district, the highest in the state.

Prakasam district also showed a 0.51 per cent increase in weekly positivity rate, Krishna 0.27 per cent, Vizianagaram 0.18 per cent and SPS Nellore 0.04 per cent increase.

East Godavari, which remained the major hotspot district during the second wave as well, showed a significant 1.48 per cent decline in the weekly positivity rate.

Though they have been registering relatively lesser number of cases, the daily Covid-19 positivity rate in Guntur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Srikakulam, Anantapuramu and Visakhapatnam has been shooting up, the data showed.

Its weekly positivity rate has fallen by 1.79 per cent to 3 per cent, but West Godavari's daily infection rate has been moving up.

In urban local bodies, Visakhapatnam city has the highest 418 active cases, Vijayawada 348 and Ongole 345.

In rural areas, only four out of 676 mandals in the state have more than 100 active cases, 248 have less than four, 145 have 5-9 and 86 have 10-14.

Of the total active cases in the state, 3,752 are in hospital and 1,005 in Covid Care Centres. The rest are in home isolation, the data said. PTI DBV BN BN
