As Cyclone Fani hits India's east coast, here's how the train and flight services have been affected: UPDATES

"Extremely severe" Cyclone Fani has made its landfall in the coastal state of Odisha on Friday morning at 8 am. As per IMD forecast, the wind speed is currently 175kmph and it could touch 275kmph.

Cyclone Fani has made its landfall in the coastal state of Odisha on Friday morning at 8 am. As per IMD forecast, the wind speed is currently 175kmph and it could touch 275kmph. As day-to-day operations in parts of Odisha, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh have been affected severely due to the heavy rainfall and winds, trains and flights have also been affected.

Railways have cancelled 107 trains from till May 4 in the light of the Cyclone Fani. These trains were supposed to pass in Bhadrak-Vizianagaram Railway section of Howrah-Chennai Main Line during the cyclone, ending their journey at Puri or Bhubaneswar. 

Furthermore, the Railway Ministry has further cancelled 40 more trains, including 21 on May 3 and 16 on May 4. Four trains have been partially cancelled, one train has been diverted.

Furthermore, aall flights to and from Bhubaneswar have been cancelled for 24 hours starting midnight of May 3 and all flights to and from Kolkata have been cancelled between 9.30 pm on May 3 and 6 pm on May 4 in order to ensure the safety of operations during the cyclone Fani. 

Airlines such as Air India and GoAir waived-off cancellations and change charges for flights to and from Bhubaneswar.

Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu had also tweeted, "Airports Authority of India issued alert to all coastal airports to ensure all precautions, SOPs put in place immediately."
