Music icon and veteran singer Asha Bhosle has received a special birthday message from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as she turned 86 on Sunday. Trudeau has sent her a signed birthday note, which read: "It is a great pleasure to send you best wishes and warmest congratulations on the occasion of your eighty-fifth birthday."
The singer, while expressing her happiness about the message, shared the picture of the note on her Twitter page. She said that she was happy to have contributed in putting India on the world music map.
Bhosale looked radiant in a blue and pink saree as she brought in her birthday with several friends and family members with enthusiastic celebrations in Dubai. She went live on Twitter to document her celebrations for her fans.
She also took a moment to thank everyone right before cutting her birthday cake.
On her special day, many celebrities took to Twitter to share their best wishes with the singer. Her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar blessed and wished her on Twitter with a video of one of Bhosle's tracks from the 1963 film "Dil Hi To Hai". Apart from that, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, and actor Kajol also tweeted out their birthday wishes to her.
Fondly known as ‘Asha Tai,’ Asha Bhosle was born in 1933 and has been a singer since 10 years of age. With a career that started in 1943 and that now spans vastly over seven decades, the 86-year-old has sung countless hit songs such as "Raat Akeli Hai", "Kajra Mohabbat Wala", "Dum Maro Dum", and "Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main.”
She has been honoured with many awards for her melodious voice including the highest civilian awards in India, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan.
Many Twitter users, while wishing the singer on her birthday also reacted to the news of the Canadian PM wishing her. They said that they were proud of her achievements and that she was 'truly deserving' of the personalised birthday wishes.
