Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday, November 8, condemned the decision of the Narendra Modi led Central Government to withdraw the Special Protection Group (SPG) security cover from Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The Rajasthan CM took to his official Twitter handle and alleged the government of 'vendetta politics'.
Gehlot stated that the family has already lost 2 of its members to act of terror, and the SPG security cover was given to the family based on threat assessment.
Decision to withdraw SPG protection to Gandhi family is condemnable. Govt is compromising the lives of a family, which has lost two members to acts of terror. It's vendetta politics n of a very low level. They wr accorded SPG cover based on threat assessment n it must continue.— Ashok Gehlot (@ashokgehlot51) November 8, 2019
He also alleged the government of politicising the security cover which is given to the leaders to save their lives. Ashok Gehlot demanded that the Prime Minister should make sure that the SPG cover is not withdrawn.
The security cover given to leaders is to save their lives & this shd not be politicized.— Ashok Gehlot (@ashokgehlot51) November 8, 2019
If the decision has been taken by only HM, then the PM must intervene. He must ensure SPG security is not withdrawn. But if the decision has PM’s consent, then it is country’s misfortune.
The Rajasthan Chief Minister further stated how the nation can never forget the sacrifices of India's former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi and how the SPG cover has been given to the Prime Minister, former PMs and their family members under an Act of Parliament.
The nation can never forget that former PM Indira Gandhi ji sacrificed her life fighting terror. Rajivji lost his life too in an act of terror.— Ashok Gehlot (@ashokgehlot51) November 8, 2019
The SPG cover has been given to the PM, former PMs n their family members under an Act of Parliament and it should not be withdrawn.
The Indian Youth Congress members on Friday protested over SPG security of the Gandhi family being withdrawn by the government, outside the residence of Home Minister Amit Shah. Earlier in the day, the official Twitter handle of the Indian Youth Congress had informed about carrying out protests outside the official residence of the Home Minister. Condemning the government's decision to withdraw the SPG cover of the Gandhi family, the Indian Youth Congress stated, " We condemn the vindictive and shameful vendetta politics of the Modi govt in removing SPG protection from Smt Sonia Ji, Rahul Gandhi Ji, and Priyanka Ji."
