Assam makes ISRO-themed pandal to commemorate late Vikram Sarabhai

A special ISRO-themed Durga Puja pandal is made in Assam to pay tribute to the late scientist Vikram Sarabhai on his 100th birth anniversary. This pandal also commemorated the 50 years of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The pandal has been designed by Chatribari Sarbajan in Debo Pujasthan Samity at Guwahati. Earlier, a similar initiative was flagged-off by the Lalbaugcha Raja’s pandal in Mumbai, to honour the launch of Chandrayaan-2. 

Locals reaction on the newly constructed Pandals 

A local resident has said that they want people to know about ISRO. He said, “We have come up with ISRO theme this time. We want people to come here and learn about the organisation - how it was started, from where it started and who all were involved in it.” Another person added, "We try to do new things every year. This time we have taken up the theme of 50 years of ISRO and 100th birth anniversary of Vikram Sarabhai. We wish to spread the message to the young generation; we want them to learn about ISRO. From the time ISRO started to Chandrayaan-2 Vikram Lander, we have tried to show as much as we could.”

Lalbaugcha Raja’s tribute to Chandrayaan-2 

The theme for this year's Lalbaugcha Raja pandal was based on ISRO's Chandrayaan-2. The Lalbaugcha Raja is the most famous Ganesh idol in Mumbai with a record number of people, including many celebrities, visiting Lalbaug to seek blessings of Lord Ganesha’s idol. The décor in the pandal showed that the Lord is surrounded by two astronauts and the Chandrayaan-2's lander. The background also showed a massive screen with running visuals from various planets and other bodies in the solar system, including Jupiter, Saturn and its rings.

‘Chandrayaan-2 98% successful’ 

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman, K Sivan, in an earlier statement, said that the Chandrayaan-2 mission achieved 98% of its objectives and even after this achievement the scientists are still working hard to establish contact with 'Vikram' lander. The ISRO Chairman had also shared that the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter was doing well and performing the scheduled experiments. "Why we are saying Chandrayaan-2 achieved 98% success is because of two objectives, one is science and the other is technology demonstration. In case of technology demonstration, the success percentage was almost full."
