A massive setback hit the Congress party on the day before the Lok Sabha elections were about to begin on April 11 when Congress leader Alpesh Thakor quit the party along with two other MLAs — Dhavalsinh Zala and Bharatji Thakor alleging that the party betrayed and sidelined him and his Thakor Sena. After the Lok Sabha elections, another massive setback may hit the party as sources have informed the Republic Media Network that Thakor is all set to join the BJP.

Three days after the Lok Sabha elections result 2019 declared that BJP won 303 seats, sources have said that Alpesh Thakor is all set to join the BJP on May 28. He met BJP leader Nitin Patel in Gujarat.

Sources said that negotiations are underway with Nitin Patel and BJP chief of Gujarat Jitu Vaghani for the designation of Thakor in the BJP.

After he left the Congress party, there had been a rebellion against him in the party. State Congress chief Amit Chavda and other senior party leaders earlier had met Gujarat Assembly speaker Rajendra Trivedi demanding the disqualification of Thakor. Thakor had then said that he will do as is Thakor Sena wants him to do when asked about the prospect of joining the BJP.

Thakor who quit the Congress party is the MLA from Radhanpur quit the party and had said:

"Most of my life I have been doing social work and in politics, my goal was to work for society and my ideology was to elevate my community.  I have dreamt to lighten up the homes of those poor and socially backward, to fulfill those I am constantly working. For me, my Thakor Sena comes first. If I had the greed for a post, I and my Sena would not have joined Congress in their bad time, thus to take this decision is very unfortunate for us."

He continued alleging that the Congress party had disrespected him and his Sena

"My Thakor Sena has been disrespected, sidelined and all we have faced is betrayal. My Sena has ordered me to leave that place where you get disrespected, sidelined, and all you get is insult and deceit, so I resign from all post of the Congress party, and such a situation will arise, I had never imagined. With a lot of pain, I am resigning from all posts of Congress, please kindly accept it. Only fell short of respect..respect..respect..for which I am pained. One thing we got always is...betrayal..betrayal..betrayal," Thakor had said.
