Bihar floods: Rahul Gandhi appeals Cong cadre to undertake rescue work

As Bihar reels under the fury of floods after unprecedented rains lashed the state for five days, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday has appealed to the Congress workers to be the part of the rescue operation. Rahul Gandhi has extended his condolence to the families of eople who have lost their lives. Highlighting the pathetic situation, he has said that Congress cadre should help in recuse operation. He has asked them to help people in need. Here is his tweet:

Death toll rises to 29

The floods in Bihar have led to the deaths of 29 people till Monday morning. The state has witnessed incessant rainfall since September 26. While the state government has called it a natural calamity, the opposition has resorted to politics. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has said that the capital Patna will receive more rainfall for the next few days accompanied by thunderstorms.

Nitish Kumar says Bihar government making effort to help locals

Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government on Sunday requested the Indian Air Force (IAF) for two helicopters for lifting and airdropping food packets and medicines, in the flood-affected areas of the region. Dewatering machines have also been sought by the state to provide relief in the flood-affected areas. Earlier while speaking to media in Patna, the Chief Minister said, "There has been heavy rainfall in some areas since yesterday and water in Ganga River is rising constantly. But there are proper arrangements and administration is at the spot and making all the efforts to help people." On Monday, the chief minister also held a high-level meeting.

BJP defends ally JD(U) despite delayed action against floods

"This is not the time to criticise. I stand with the people of Patna. The government is working for the people, the Centre is also helping. We are jointly working on the solution. I asked the Union Minister to open flood gates. I have also arranged for two helicopters. One has already reached,  another one will also reach here. We have asked Coal India to send large pumps to remove the floodwater," the BJP leader said.
