Bihar: NDRF says 'Orange alert regions under special surveillance'

The National Disaster Response Force on Thursday has said that the orange alert regions in flood-hit Bihar are under special surveillance. The Director-General of NDRF, SN Pradhan, in a media statement said, "NDRF teams have been deployed in every region affected due to floods. The situation is better in Patna and in other districts. We will continue this operation until it is required. The regions for which we have received the orange alert are under special surveillance. We will win in every way and try to provide relief to the people."

IMD issues orange alert

The NDRF and SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) have been deployed in the city and are currently carrying out rescue operations. The teams are rescuing the locals who are stranded due to floods in Rajendra Nagar Area. The IMD (India Meteorological Department) had issued an orange alert on October 2 for Patna, Vaishali, Begusarai and Khagaria districts for October 3 and 4.

Death toll reaches 55 in Bihar

According to reports, the death toll reached 55 in Bihar. Nearly 21.45 lakh people and 959 villages have been affected due to the heavy rainfall. The NDRF has evacuated more than ten thousand flood-affected people in Bihar since September 28. Indian Air Force helicopters are also dropping relief material to the flood-affected areas.

Govt initiates fogging

The Bihar Government also started fogging work in the waterlogged areas to keep vector-borne diseases in check. The district magistrate told ANI, "We have started fogging in all the flood-affected areas and are especially in the regions that were water-logged. Along with the fogging, we are also spraying bleach. We have distributed bleach powder packets to people to use it inside their homes."

Ravi Shankar Prasad visits flood-affected areas

Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Minister and Lok Sabha Member from Patna, had visited the flood-affected areas in Rajendra Nagar on Wednesday. The leader interacted with the officials and took note of the status of the relief work that is underway. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also visited flood-affected areas of Patna on Tuesday.
