Bulandshahr on edge, FIRs filed after policeman, civilian killed by violent mob: LIVE UPDATES

Violence broke out in Bulandshahr on Monday over alleged illegal slaughter of cattle, leaving a police inspector and a youth dead as a mob went on a rampage here torching a police post and clashed with police, which opened fire to control the situation, officials said.

Update at 6:30 PM: National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC) issued notice to UP Government over reports of killing of two persons, including a police officer, in the violent agitation over alleged cow slaughter

Four arrests have been made till now. Five other has been detained. Six teams are at the spot and the police has video footage and eyewitness accounts. We will only arrest those who are culprits. We will not send any innocent person to jail. Local boy Sumit also lost his life. Bullet was recovered from his body too. There is no unrest in Bulandshahr now. 

Yogesh is on run. Yogesh Raj, local functionary of the Bajrang Dal, is the culprit and we are trying to nab him. Slain cop Subodh Kumar was first attacked by a blunt object and then someone fired at him. He was in Akhlaq case but he has been transferred from there. Don't know why he was transferred.

Update at 7:45 am: Post Mortem report has confirmed gun shot injury to Subodh Kumar Singh in addition to injuries sustained by hard and blunt object. The entry of the bullet is near the left eyebrow. As per the report it appears to be a .32 bore. Miscreant looted 3 mobile phones ,  32 mm bullet inside head found, injury in the head, waist band, cheeks and knees.

Violence broke out in Bulandshahr on Monday over alleged illegal slaughter of cattle, leaving a police inspector and a youth dead as a mob went on a rampage here torching a police post and clashed with police, which opened fire to control the situation, officials said.

Additional Director General of Meerut zone Prashant Kumar said the protesters from Mahaw village and nearby areas pelted stones on the police and indulged in arson setting several vehicles and the Chingarwathi Police Chowki on fire.

Inspector Subodh Kumar, who was posted at the Syana Police Station, died in the violence, he said, but did not elaborate. Police said a 20-year-old youth, identified as Sumit died of gun-shot wounds.

The trouble started after villagers found some body parts of cow and its progeny in a jungle in Mahaw village, the ADG said. Angry villagers and members of various Hindu groups brought the animal remains in tractor-trolley to the Chingarwathi Police Chowki and demanded action against the culprits. 

They raised slogans against the police administration and blocked the Bulandshahr-Garh highway. District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Jha said police and senior officials tried to reason with the protestors but they refused to budge. 

As Sub-divisional Magistrate Avinash Kumar Maurya arrived on the scene, protesters turned violent, pelting stones on policemen and indulging in arson. District Magistrate Anuj Kumar Jha said police had to open fire in self-defence. 

Meerut Divisional Commissioner Aneeta C Meshram said she was rushing to the spot to take stock of the situation.
