Ever since the imposition of the Motor Vehicle Act 2019, shocking instances of people being handed exorbitant fines under the same have been recorded. In a recent incident in Dehradun, a bullock cart owner was asked to pay a fine of Rs 1000 under section 81 of the MV Act.

As per sources, owner of the bullock cart, identified as Riaz Hassan, resides in Charba Village in Sahaspur and had parked his bullock cart next to his farm near a local rivulet on Saturday. During a patrol, a police team headed by sub-inspector Pankaj Kumar called for Riaz and handed him a challan.

Challan canceled on the same day

Riaz, reportedly asked the patrolling team on how they could ask him a fine when bullock carts are not even included in the Act. He also threw light upon the fact that the cart was parked outside his own field. The cops then reportedly backed out and the challan was cancelled on the same day.

As per reports, the Sahaspur police station in-charge PD Bhatt said that the patrolling took place because of the purported information on illegal mining stated:

"As most of the villagers take sand left after mining on bullock carts, the team thought that Hassan's cart was being used for the same purpose".

New Delhi police had recently fined a man for playing music on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The man, identified as Raghav Swati Pruthi, recently bought a Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special that had an inbuilt factory fit audio system. As he started his motorcycle after a traffic signal turned green, he was pulled over by a police car and the cops asked him for his license and asked him to come to the police station and handed him a challan later.

Similarly, a truck driver was fined over Rs 2 lakh in Delhi last week. In another incident, an auto driver was also was fined Rs 1,000 in Bihar for not wearing a seat belt, although the three-wheeler boasts no such provision.
