CBI arrests fmr JKLF commander Javed Mir in IAF officers murder case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested former Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) commander Javed Ahmad Mir. The case involves the killing of the Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel in Srinagar in 1990. Mir has been arrested by the CBI during a raid in Kashmir, sources said. Sources also informed that he may be produced before a TADA court in Jammu. The CBI had earlier filed a plea, in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to transfer the case. In March, the case was transferred. Mir is also an accused in the terror funding case along with the JKLF commander Yasin Malik.

JKLF killed four IAF personnel

Mir, along with Malik heads the banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) is accused of being involved in the killing of the Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel in Kashmir. On January 25, 1990, four IAF employees, including Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna were killed by JKLF terrorists in the Rawalpora area of Srinagar. Malik was charge-sheeted by the CBI before the TADA court in Jammu on August 31, 1990, in the case. Malik has been arrested in a terror funding case by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Terror funding case against Yasin Malik 

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary charge sheet in the 2017 terror funding case in the Patiala House, October 4. The charge sheet was filed against Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front  (JKLF)  Chief Yasin Malik, along with Rashid Engineer, Asiya Andrabi, Shabir Shah, and Masarat Alam Bhat. The entire proceedings took place in the camera. Yasin Malik was questioned by NIA for weeks together after he was brought to New Delhi earlier in April.

On October 23, Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Syal put up the matter for taking cognisance. The accused will have the right to scrutinise the documents present against them on that day. Until then all the accused will remain in Judicial custody. The very important development NIA has done in their investigation is that they have discovered digital evidence against the accused showing the connection between the accused and Pakistan. Yasin Malik, Asiya Andrabi and Masarat Alam are currently lodged in Tihar jail in Delhi.
