Women in India often face gender discrimination and the wrath of societal judgments that are unnecessary and biased. This discrimination ranges from telling women what to do and framing cultural, moral policing rules which somehow do not apply to the men in the country. Similar such incident took place when the country's top politician jumped in the scene to make a comment which has garnered some outrage.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday sparked a controversy when he said that he had begun to fear the fact that even girls have started drinking beer now.

"I have begun to fear now, because even the girls have started drinking beer... the tolerance limit is being crossed. Not all of them. I am not talking about this crowd (referring to the audience)," he said at the first edition of the State Youth Parliament organised by the Legislature Secretariat, Porvorim.

His thoughts came in the backdrop of Goa being considered as one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the nation and across the world.

While many took offense and rightly so, some women on Twitter however, just got another reason to say cheers! Within minutes of the comment, #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer became a national trend on Twitter with women from all walks of life sharing their pictures with their beer!

Here are the #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer, and there's nothing you can do to stop them.

Celebrities also joined the bandwagon to slam Parrikar, and raise a toast. Bollywood Director Vivek Agnihotri and Singer Vishal Dadlani backing the women, took to Twitter to share their views.
