Delhi police protest: Several Police Associations extend support

Many police associations across the country have extended their support to the Delhi police personnel who have faced violence at the hands of some lawyers.

The Gujarat Indian Police Service Association on Wednesday condemned the violence against the police personnel at the Tis Hazari court on November 2. In a statement, it expressed solidarity with the Delhi police and called for action to be taken against the culprits. Since hundreds of police personnel protested outside the Police Headquarters in the national capital on Tuesday, many police associations across the country have pledged their support.

IPS associations extend support

On Tuesday, the central Indian Police Association also commented on the clashes between the lawyers and the police. It called upon everyone concerned to take a balanced view of the situation based on facts. Maintaining that there was nationwide support for the police personnel subjected to “physical assault and humiliation”, it condemned the attempt to break the law. Furthermore, the Bihar Police Association, Tamil Nadu Indian Police Association, UP Indian Police Association, Kerala Indian Police Association, Madhya Pradesh Indian Police Association and the Punjab Police also issued statements extending support to the Delhi police personnel.

Lawyers-police tussle

The tussle between the lawyers and the police in Delhi has been going on since the clashes outside the Tis Hazari court on November 2 when a dispute broke out over a parking spot. On November 3, the Delhi High Court ordered a judicial inquiry by a retired High Court judge into the clashes between the police and lawyers outside the Tis Hazari court. The inquiry will be completed within 6 weeks. Meanwhile, Republic accessed a shocking video on Monday in which a lawyer can be seen assaulting a policeman outside the main gate of the Saket court in Delhi. The cop does not respond and simply drives away from the spot.
